How to Clean Silver Jewelry at Home – No Cost Trick!

Hi friends! My name is Dinesh, and today I’m sharing a special trick with you to clean your blackened silver jewelry, anklets, and utensils right at home—without spending a penny! With the festive season here, we all want our silver items to look brand new. So, let’s get started!

Steps to Clean Silver Jewelry at Home

  • A pot of hot water
  • 2 teaspoons of tea leaves (the ones you use for daily tea)
  • A little dishwashing detergent
  • Lemon juice and lemon peels
  • A small piece of silver foil
  • Colgate powder (tooth powder)
  • An old brush and a clean dry cloth

How to Clean Silver Jewelry

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Mixture
Heat a good amount of water in a pot. Add 2 teaspoons of tea leaves, a bit of dishwashing detergent, some lemon juice, and lemon peels. Now, here’s my first secret—tear a small piece of silver foil and drop it in. This will work wonders to remove the tarnish.
  2. Step 2: Boil the Jewelry
Place your silver jewelry—like anklets, chains, or rings—into the pot. Let it boil for 5 minutes. Don’t worry if your jewelry has stones or enamel work; this method is safe. (Note: Don’t add pooja vessels yet; they have a different process.)
  3. Step 3: Rinse It Off
After 5 minutes, turn off the gas and let the water cool. Take out the jewelry and discard the blackened water. Gently rub the jewelry with the lemon peels.
  4. Step 4: The Second Secret – Colgate Powder
Take some Colgate powder and sprinkle it on the jewelry. Rub it with a brush, then rinse it 3-4 times with water and wipe it with a dry cloth. Let the jewelry air dry. Then, apply Colgate powder again and rub it with your hands—this acts as a polish. The powder will turn black, and your hands might too, but don’t worry!
  5. Final Step: Shine It Up
Clean the jewelry with a dry cloth or brush. For items like anklets, a brush works best. Your jewelry will now sparkle like new!

How to Clean Pooja Vessels

No need to boil pooja vessels. Just sprinkle Colgate powder on them, scrub with a brush, and rinse with water. Dry them, then rub with dry powder for a polished finish. Done—your vessels are ready!

Tip to Keep Silver Shiny

To prevent tarnish, store your silver in a plastic bag to keep it away from air. If exposed, it might turn black again.

My Experience

I’ve tried this method several times, and it works like magic every time. It’s easy, affordable, and uses things you already have at home. During festivals, when guests visit, they always compliment my shiny jewelry and utensils. Give it a try and share it with your friends and family!
